Best SOL Staking Yield 2026: Jito vs Marinade vs Native Staking

I checked my Jito position from a warung in Ubud last Tuesday. 8.1% APY flashing on my screen, SOL price holding around $82. Coffee cost me $1.50. The yield from that SOL stack covered three months of Bali rent in one quarter.

That’s the thing about Solana staking in 2026 — the gap between strategies has gotten real. Not 0.1% differences. We’re talking 6.2% native versus 8.5% with Sanctum INF. On a $120K position, that’s an extra $2,700 a year just from choosing the right LST.

This is what I do: I run three SOL staking strategies side by side and I’m going to break down exactly what each one yields, how they work, and where the risks actually are.

What Is Solana Liquid Staking? (30-Second Version)

When you stake SOL natively, your tokens are locked. You pick a validator, delegate, wait a 2-3 epoch warmup (~2-3 days), and start earning. Simple, but illiquid.

Liquid staking tokens (LSTs) solve this. You deposit SOL and get a receipt token — JitoSOL, mSOL, INF — that earns yield in the background while you can still use it in DeFi. The LST’s price rises over time relative to SOL, which is how you accrue rewards without manual claiming.

The question for 2026 isn’t whether to use LSTs. It’s which one.

The spread is not trivial. At $120K (roughly 1,466 SOL at $82), moving from 6.2% native to 8.5% INF means +$2,760/year before tax.

Native Solana Staking: The Baseline

This is the OG approach. You pick a validator directly through Phantom, Solflare, or Ledger Live, delegate your SOL, and earn the network inflation rate minus the validator’s commission.

What you get:

The catch: You need to pick a good validator. Look for commission under 7%, uptime above 99%, and a track record. A lazy validator with 10% commission and spotty uptime can knock 0.5–1% off your real APY.

Also: illiquidity. If SOL dumps 30% and you want to swap or deploy capital elsewhere, you’re waiting 2-3 epochs (about 4-6 days) for unstaking to settle.

I keep about 20% of my SOL in native staking on a hardware wallet. It’s the sleep-well-at-night stack. The other 80% works harder.

For hardware staking, I use a Ledger — worth having for any large SOL position.

JitoSOL: MEV Premium + The Triple Yield Play

Jito is the biggest LST on Solana by market share (>45%), and it earns that position. Here’s the alpha: it’s not just capturing staking yield — it captures MEV (Maximal Extractable Value) from Solana’s block space.

How MEV tips work: Searchers and traders pay SOL tips to get their transactions included in blocks in a specific order. Jito validators collect these tips and distribute a portion back to JitoSOL holders. This generates a yield premium of 0.5–1%+ on top of base staking.

What you get:

2026 upgrade — Jito Restaking: Jito has gone further with its NCN (Node Consensus Network) restaking architecture. Think of it like EigenLayer on Solana — protocols like Switchboard oracle network pay JitoSOL holders to use their security. Early data shows this could add another 1–2% on top of base JitoSOL yield if you opt in.

The “Triple Yield” stack: base staking + MEV tips + NCN restaking rewards. It’s still early, but this is the highest-ceiling strategy for SOL in 2026.

Risk: Smart contract exposure, MEV tip volume fluctuates significantly with market activity. In quiet markets, the MEV premium drops.

Marinade Finance: Delegation Diversity as a Moat

Marinade takes a different approach. Instead of MEV optimization, it spreads your stake across hundreds of validators using an algorithmic delegation strategy designed to maximize APY while supporting Nakamoto coefficient (decentralization).

You deposit SOL → receive mSOL → mSOL price appreciates as rewards accumulate.

What you get:

Why that fee change matters: Before February 2026, Marinade took a flat 9.5% performance fee on all rewards. Now it only charges when it actually beats the baseline. This aligns incentives better and effectively raised net APY for holders.

The honest comparison with Jito: Marinade doesn’t capture MEV. On high-activity days when MEV tips spike, JitoSOL will outperform mSOL. On quiet days? The gap narrows. Marinade’s consistent delegation strategy means it rarely surprises you on the downside.

Sanctum INF: The Highest Stable APY Right Now

INF is different from the others. It’s not a single-validator LST — it’s a basket.

When you deposit SOL into Sanctum’s Infinity pool, you get INF tokens representing a share of a diversified portfolio of high-performing LSTs. INF earns from two sources:

  1. The weighted-average staking APY of all LSTs it holds
  2. Swap fees when traders use Sanctum’s unified liquidity layer to move between LSTs

What you get:

The “swap fee” component is the interesting part. Solana has dozens of LSTs with fractured liquidity. Sanctum consolidates that liquidity, charges a small fee on swaps, and passes it to INF holders. When the LST market is active — high volume of people rotating between protocols — INF outperforms everything.

The real-world math: Over recent quarters, INF has outperformed JitoSOL by roughly 28%. That’s not a rounding error. On a 1,466 SOL position at $120K, that’s real money compounding.

Risk: INF’s APY can drop significantly if LST swap volume dries up. The swap fee component is variable. Also: newer protocol relative to Jito/Marinade, so track record is shorter.

How to Pick: A Framework for 2026

You want simplicity + security: Native staking with a quality validator. Use a hardware wallet. Accept the 6.2% and sleep well. Best paired with Ledger hardware for max security.

You want best risk-adjusted LST yield: JitoSOL. Deepest liquidity, most battle-tested protocol, MEV premium. ~7.5-8.5% APY. Works everywhere in Solana DeFi.

You want maximum APY right now: Sanctum INF. ~8.5% with historically higher peaks. Slightly more complex, newer protocol, but the numbers are there.

You’re building a large position ($50K+ SOL): Split strategy. I run 20% native, 40% JitoSOL, 30% INF, 10% experimental (Jito restaking NCN). This smooths out the volatility between MEV-dependent and fee-dependent yields.

You want CEX simplicity: Binance SOL Earn offers around 5-6% APY with flexible terms. Lower yield, zero setup friction. Good for starting out.

The Risk Section (Read This)

Staking isn’t risk-free. Here’s what can actually hurt you:

Smart contract risk: Every LST involves a contract that holds your SOL. Jito and Marinade have been audited repeatedly and hold billions in TVL, but “audited” doesn’t mean “bulletproof.” INF is newer with a shorter track record.

Slashing (minimal on Solana): Solana doesn’t slash validators the way Ethereum does. But validator downtime means missed rewards, not lost principal.

APY compression: If more SOL gets staked network-wide, inflation yield per validator drops. All APYs shown here will decline over the next 2-3 years as the staking ratio increases.

MEV volatility: JitoSOL’s premium depends on MEV tip volume. During bear markets or low-activity periods, the premium shrinks.

De-peg risk (small): LSTs can temporarily trade below their SOL value during liquidity crises. Happened briefly in DeFi stress events. For long-term holders, this is noise.
